Abstract

Skin, the largest organ of the body mass, is constantly exposed to risk factors such as burns, wounds and singes. A rapid and timely treatment of severe skin damages is crucial for patients. Nanofibrous scaffolds with unique features such as high surface area to weight ratio, high porosity and good ventilation to mimic the extracellular matrix opens a new window on the regeneration of the skin. Also the suitability of nanofibers as new drug delivery systems is described. Different polymers, natural or synthetic, can be used to produce nanofibers by electrospinning with highly application in the medical field. The use of polymer nanofibers in the regeneration of the skin, following recent studies, and some important parameters in the electrospinning is evaluated by this study.
