Abstract

Background and aim: Given the importance of treatment PTSD and ASD, The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to compare pharmacotherapies given within the first month after a traumatic or aversive event to prevent PTSD or ASD. Method: MEDLINE, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, ISI, google scholar were used as electronic databases to perform a systematic literature between 2010 to 2019. A commercially available software program (Endnote X9) was used for electronic title management. Searches were performed with keywords, “Post-traumatic stress disorder OR PTSD”, “Acute stress disorder OR ASD”,” pharmacotherapy”,” Hydrocortisone”, “Propranolol” “β blockers”, “Morphine”, “Albuterol”, “Carvedilol”,” atenolol”,” metoprolol”, “Hydrocortisone”. Result: A total of 425 potentially relevant titles and abstracts were found during the electronic and manual search. Finally, a total of eight publications fulfilled the inclusion criteria required for this systematic review. The pooled RR was 2.382 (95 CI 1.341–4.229), showing a 42 decrease in PTSD or ASD incidence in the pharmacotherapy relative to the control groups. Conclusion: no persuading prove was found for the efficacy of all pharmacotherapies within the avoidance of PTSD or ASD. © 2019, Advanced Scientific Research. All rights reserved.
